The Hong Kong actress's father reportedly disappeared after he was involved in a RMB$2 million (approximately S$390,000) fraud case in China

Cecilia Cheung's father, Cheung Yan Yung went missing after he was suspected to be the mastermind behind a RMB$2 million (approximately S$390,000) fraud case in Fanyu, China. Large posters of the older Cheung surfaced around the bustling streets in Hong Kong yesterday, stating, "'Bearded Yung' (Yan Yung's nickname) swindled RMB$2 million and disappeared."

Cecilia's younger brother, Cheung Pak-Man refused to comment on this matter and is currently uncontactable.

This is not the first time Cecilia's dad got involved in debt rumours. Reports suggested that the alleged former triad leader previously had a notorious gambling obsession which racked up massive debts.

Cecilia, who was the sole breadwinner in the family, paid off her father's debts when the latter escaped to Malaysia in 1999. This case caused a stir in the Hong Kong entertainment industry when the 32-year-old actress was threatened with rape by triad members at that time.

She once confessed during an interview, "I feel stressed to have such a huge responsibility at home."
