Tiger Cubs Finale Received 25 Complaints
Wednesday, August 15, 2012
TVB drama Tiger Cubs aired its finale last night with Kenneth Ma's character Do Tin Yu holding more than a dozen hostage in a yacht. This scene reminded many audiences of the hijacking of the Hong Kong tour bus in Philippines nearly two years ago. TVB received nine complaints due to this, in addition to the 16 other complaints about the excessively bloody scenes.
When the cast was filming Tiger Cubs last year, the drama originally planned for scene where people was held hostage on a bus. It was cancelled in the end with a yacht replacing the bus. However, the scene still left the audience uneasy last night with the Hong Kong Broadcasting Authority and TVB receiving 8 and 1 complaints respectively. They complained that the plot was reminiscent of the hostage incident. At the same time the Communications Authority received 11 complaints about the disturbing bloody scenes and that it was not suitable at a family setting. TVB received an additional 5 complaints that the ending was not written realistically and requested it to be re-filmed.
Three Kingdoms RPG's finale last Friday and Ghetto Justice II also received complaints. TVB received 9 complaints regarding Three Kingdoms RPG's ending as being too tragic and not having a happy ending. Ghetto Justice II's 4 complaints showed dissatisfaction with the plot and the character's disingenuous Cantonese.
Though affected by the Olympics, TVB viewship still remained to be quite good. Tiger Cubs' finale on Sunday averaged 30 points (approximately 1.92 million viewers) with a highest rating of 36 points (approximately 2.3 million viewers). This left ATV with almost zero ratings. Three Kingdoms RPG's finale averaged 31 points (1.98 million viewers) with it's highest at 36 points; the entire drama averaged at 30 points. Ghetto Justice II averaged 28 points in ratings for last week.
