Deanie: Andy thought would lose money

Andy Lau and Deanie Ip’s A Simple Life has managed to earn HK$9,416,998 box office takings after four days of screening in Hong Kong, a warming film with good reviews and good box office takings, surely it would exceed HK$1,000,000 after its fifth day screenings.

Two nights ago, Deanie attended a special charity premiere of the film to raise fund for Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation, she just came back from promoting the film in Malaysia, when told of the good reviews and box office takings of the film in Hong Kong, she was excited and say thanks to the audience’s support. She said: “Really very touched, initially thought that Andy would lose money. Such righteous film’s popularity, it shows that Hongkongers are still alive. We’re not pigs, we have brains!” Deanie did not set any target for the box office collections as long as it’s good news. She exclaimed that the success of the film owned to everybody’s effort and not just one or two persons.

A Simple Life also did very well in terms of Mainland China box office takings as it managed to collect RMB¥36,000,000 after four days of screenings, breaking many records. The first day screening of RMB¥13,000,000 which excel against other Hollywood films screened at the same time, it also broke the box office record for Chinese films started screening on 8 March.

On Thursday 15 March, a celebration for the film will be held, Deanie exclaimed that Andy would also attending the event. When asked Andy should be accompanying his wife, she quipped that she’s not sure as she’s afraid that Andy would scold her, he will reveal if he feels like it.

Meanwhile, Andy thanks everybody’s support for A Simple Life on his website, he pointed out that director Ann Hui is film industry’s ‘Tao Jie’ as she contributed everything for films in these years. Deanie is the ‘Tao Jie’ within ‘Tao Jie’, to play the character well, she has no reservation for the role. Meeting fans through promoting the film in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia, the fans are like ‘Tao Jie’ in the film for his life, as they always gave him their support. He feel safe for Hong Kong films, as long as everybody did their best, wherever it goes, there will be millions of Tao Jie supporting.
