Leon Lai will be holding concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum this December. The gimmick this time round is that there will be two Leon on the same stage! This is because Leon has invited, the king of celebrity imperator, Johnson Lee to appear as another Leon Lai.
Johnson Lee is famous for being one of the best impersonators in the Hong Kong showbiz industry. He has appeared on stage in the past impersonating all four of the heavenly kings, leaving audience with deep memories and enjoyment. Yesterday, Johnson was arranged to meet music producer, Mark Lui to rehearse some of Leon’s songs. Johnson interpreted Leon’s classic ‘Greedy for New, loving old’ in front of Leon and Mark. After hearing this song, Leon placed his thumbs up and praised on Johnson’s performance. Leon expressed: “Impossible to not pass him! He has great impersonation skills, turns it into a great art!”
Leon revealed that for his concert, he wanted to show different side of himself and so wanted to look for another Leon for this representation. Finally he choose Johnson as his guest, Johnson gratefully replied: “Normally when I impersonate others, I end up earning more enemies. Leon is such a substance star, I am very privileged. To be able to appear in Leon’s concert, singing his songs and saying Leon’s golden phrases, it is like going to a fast food restaurant and asking for a fish burger, Oh My God!”
Johnson self admitted he is a fan of Leon. Since one of TVB series ‘The Challenge of Life’, where Leon played the leading role, Johnson was a supporting fan of Leon’s albums and films. Johnson also revealed that he used to sing Leon’s classic song ‘Sorry, I love you’ to court girls. Before Johnson entered into showbiz, he met Leon at a karaoke bar. Johnson laughed: “He was with Lawrence Ng and they were singing, I didn’t have the chance to sing then.” In response to this, Leon laughed: “I did not jump the queue!” Johnson pointed out that when he was due to sing the song ‘Hello’, Leon was commenting below that he could not sing the high tones. Leon laughed: “I was not that mean!”
