Joey Yung loses big award: I am not unhappy

Sunday, November 07, 2010 Posted by Admin 0 comments
The "Four Station Music Awards" announced its suspension for a year yesterday, shattering Joey Yung's dreams of getting the "Media Award" for the 4th time. Chances of winning "Album Big Award" for singers such as Leo Ku and RubberBand, popular picks for "Song Big Award" Joey Yung, Leo Ku and Miriam Yeung, and "Outstanding Performance Award" G.E.M, Raymond Lam and Sherman Chung all vanishes. EEG and East Asia both express that they will not be participating in the "Four Station Awards" anymore.

Last night, Joey attended TVB's program Stars Shine Jiangmen (群星閃耀江門情) and responded to the news calmly, she said: "Don't know how to look at it, don't understand. Strategic decisions, let my company decide, I am not unhappy. (EEG didn't discuss with you?) No, it's not just me who was affected. The awards ceremonies and the media award are encouragement to singers, every one wants to give an award to their favorite singer. I am just doing my job, don't want to be linked to so many things."

Gillian Chung also supports: "Let our company decide, I don't feel that it's a pity, Joey's great effort can be seen in anyone's eyes, just there won't be a media award. Every singer is hard working, the awards does not represent all."

TVB executive (Ho Lai Chuen) the suspension is useless: "Then there's no meaning, no enough credibility. In the past there are record companies who have different reasons to not attend the award ceremonies. This time, the decision is too careless, coming to such conclusion, I feel that it's a pity. It is unfair to those hard working singers." Asked how the relationship is between TVB and the Big 4 record companies? He said: "Both sides has gave in, 60% of it was solved, Hacken Lee also wants to get it resolved as soon as possible. (Will appearances on ATV or iCable be held accountable on the singers under Big 4?) There is no regulation to shut out people nor do anyone have the power to do so."

Universal Music singer Kay Tse responded to the news as well, she expressed: "The award is presented by the media, singers have a passive position. (Is it fair to Universal Music?) Not looked at independently, I personally don't have any feelings. If there is an award, it is encouragement." East Asia singer Miriam Yeung said: "Of course we have to respect our company's decision, it is an inevitable reason." Asked if she will be attended the Four Station Music Award Ceremony? Miriam said: "Try my best, I don't dare to say so." She also said that she's currently busy organizing her wedding reception and taking wedding photos.

The Broadcast Director (TV) Cheung Man Sun felt that in the current environment, there cannot be only one station in power. He said: "The different between foreign investment and local record company causes some artists to not be able to go on TVB. We all have our own mechanism, RTHK supports fair announcement of the award ceremony."

Gillian Chung Hints Ronald Cheng Cheated

Saturday, November 06, 2010 Posted by Admin 0 comments
Lately it is reported Charlene Choi (Ah Sa) and Ronald Cheng are not legally divorced yet because Ronald wanted to get back with his ex. The report seems to blame the divorce to Ah Sa. As for the incident, Ah Sa's good sister Gillian Chung (Ah Gill) and manager Mani Fok commented on Weibo to speak for Ah Sa.

"No need to get mad, facts speak louder than words!," Mani wrote.

Then Ah Gill commented later. "You did what you can for the good of you both by not telling the reason for the divorce. It's not your fault."

Her comment totally hints Ronald has done something to cause the marriage to fall apart. Knowing she said something she should not said, Ah Gill immediately removed the comment from Weibo.

Yesterday she appeared at Metro radio and she expressed she does not want to talk about the incident anymore. "I just don't think it's fair for Ah Sa, that's it," she said, "You can't trust everything others said."

She denied Ah Sa told her to remove her initial comment and it is just she wants to avoid troubles.

Ah Sa and Ronald announced their divorce in March this year, stating it will be better for them both. They secretly got married in 2006 and had been hiding their marriage since then until a magazine exposed it all.

Earning a $4 million (Yuan) fee for her recent empress role in mainland series, New Princess Pearl "新还珠格格", Sheren announced that she will “show up only if she wins an award.” Apparently, Sheren may want both the Best Actress Award and her money!

She said, “One minute, the tabloids say that I have no acting jobs lined up! Another minute, they say that I earned $4 million! Just don’t make the tax department investigate my tax filing!”

Sammi Cheng and Andy Hui Repressed Love for 3 Months?

Posted by Admin 0 comments
Since breaking-up with his girlfriend of three years, Michelle, in July, Andy Hui Chi On became a target of negative press and was labeled a “player in relationships.” Immediately after Andy’s break-up with Michelle, Sammi Cheng Sau Man wrote a thousand-word essay, denying that she was the third party leading up to Andy and Michelle’s break-up. However, Sammi left room in her essay for a possible re-unification with Andy: “If you ask whether in my heart, I have thought about re-uniting with Andy, honestly I have!”

At public events, Sammi and Andy appeared evasive in front of other people due to public press. Privately, Sammi and Andy may have been unable to repress their love for each other. Last month, Sammi and Andy performed at a concert in Shanghai together. Sammi asked her assistant to take photos of Andy and herself hugging together. The photo was not uploaded on her blog and may be for her private enjoyment only. Afterwards, Sammi and Andy continued chatting and did not want to part. Looking at their body language, they shared a deep connection. Perhaps a reunification would happensooner or later!

"Four Station Music Awards" suspended for a year; EEG angered: Not playing again

Posted by Admin 0 comments
[Oriental Daily] disclosed on the newspapers yesterday that the "Four Station Music Awards" that has been established for 16 years will be suspended for a year due to the unsolved royalty issue between TVB and the Big 4 record companies. The Four Stations sent out a statement: "After reviewing the "2010 Four Station Music Award" charts and found that there are problems, the 4 Stations and its members held a joint meeting on November 3, 2010 ... and after considering the music fans' opinions, we have decided to suspend the 'Four Station Music Award' for a year."

(TN: The Four Stations include: RTHK, CRHK, Metro and JSG)

After the news broke out into the entire music scene, last night the record companies were discussing about it. EEG and East Asia sent out a statement: "Even if 'Four Station Music Award' is suspended for a year, we respect the 4 station decision. As there are many music fans who question the award selection criteria, to be fair and after further discussion, EEG and East Asia Music Group both will not participate in the 'Four Station Music Award'." Their action pose an intense protest, refuses to play this "4 Station Joint Award" again.

EEG Chairman (Ng Yue) expressed his anger on Weibo: "The Four Stations canceled the Four Station Award just because of some dispute between a small company and another station... the annual awards ceremony that has been going on for over 10 years is considered destroyed. Irrational and unreasonable decision, like a child's playgame. It could even be said that they are not respecting all of HK record companies."

TVB Arts and Music Division Senior Manager (Chan Ka Yeung) expressed: "They have their freedom to make their own decisions, they are the record companies, we are a TV station. (Refuse to take action?) I don't dare to say, participation is their right. The statement has no attack element." Metro Station expressed: "The 4 Stations already decided, let RTHK's spokesperson address the issue."

The news has greatly affected the singers of EEG, East Asia and Gold Label. It concerns singers like Joey Yung who could have got the "Media Award" for the 4th time, but now dreams are shattered due to the award being discontinued. Joey responded through her assistant: "Don't know, ask the record company."

Raymond Lam teary eyes after getting note of encouragement from Mrs. Fong

Posted by Admin 0 comments
Since producer Lawrence Wong said Raymond Lam led the box office to do poorly and basically said that he can't support the market, Raymond has not responded because he's been working in Mainland. Last night, Raymond was one of the guest performers at the Miss Chinese International Pageant 2010 held in Tianjin. Accompanied by TVB executive Virgina Lok, Raymond meets the media and responded to the news for the first time.

Raymond said that he has not seen the reports, but it was only this year that he stepped into the film scene, so he is willing to accept all comments and promises to continue his hard work. He said: "I was never upset. I found out about the news because someone told me, but comments and evaluations from my seniors will help me think where I need to improve." Later, Miss Lok handed Raymond a book, where there was a note personally written by 6th Aunt (Mona Fong) attached inside. The note read: "Have no fear of gossips, favorable criticisms are acclaimed, continue to achieve better results." Seeing his boss's support for him, Raymond had teary eyes on the spot.

Speaking of this year's popular discussions on Moses Chan and Wayne Lai battling for TV King, Raymond frankly said that every year he looks at it like something normal. Though he has been in the industry for more than 10 years, but there are many TVB seniors around, as a junior he only needs to focus on his own part. He said: "Mrs. Fong sent me a note of encouragement, I really felt surprised, didn't know how to react, I couldn't believe that she notices my work. Before many seniors said they bleed TVB's blood, now I finally understand, having such a good boss watching over me and being so understanding, my competitive heart really came back! Ask me if I have confidence to win the award? I say yes I do!"

Miss Lok expressed that she intends to urge her artists and colleagues to quit drinking. As for Lawrence Wong exposing the inside story within the company while drunk, she said: "It's only called the inside story if it's true. (The truth comes out after drinking!) It's not true. (Was Mrs. Fong upset?) I report everything that happens in the company to her weekly, she understands what's going on. The incident that happened that day I only knew after reading the paper. I had to calm down and look at it a second time, not emotional, not angered, just felt that it's a huge problem."

Update on “4 Stations Joint Media Award”: Joey Yung doesn’t have a chance to repeat her win this year

Posted by Admin 0 comments
With the various music awards shows gearing up to start handing out this year’s results, there were reports out today that the highly contentious “4 Stations Joint Media Award” will be cancelled. According to a source, the 4 stations (RTHK, Commercial Radio, Metro Radio, and TVB) held a meeting the day before yesterday and with a vote of 2 to 1, decided to cancel the award this year. If true, then it means that last year’s winner – EEG’s Joey Yung – will not have an opportunity to win the award again this year. In addition, after the meeting, TVB decided to play hardball by delaying the official joint announcement of the award’s cancellation.

Due to the ongoing dispute between TVB and the big 4 record companies, last year’s JSG Awards Ceremony (TVB’s music awards show) did not give out any awards to the big 4 artists, causing artists such as Eason Chan, Kay Tse, Hacken Lee, etc. to become ‘sacrificial lambs’ of the dispute. The results of the JSG awards last year were highly contentious and sparked much debate from all sides. A few days ago, our paper was the first to reveal that the 4 stations held their first meeting back at the end of October to discuss whether the Media award should be cancelled this year. At that time, the organizer of the meeting – government station RTHK – suggested casting votes to decide the outcome. [TN: The results of that meeting were inconclusive.]

According to sources, the 4 stations held their second meeting day before yesterday. As they did in the previous meeting, RTHK and Commercial Radio were in favor of canceling the award. TVB, however, was in favor of keeping the award, stating that there was no unfairness with the JSG awards last year and it was the big 4 record companies who decided not to attend. As for Metro Radio, they decided to remain neutral due to their good relationship with all the HK record companies. As a result, when the 4 stations had their second round of voting [TN: first round was during the October meeting], it was 2 in favor of canceling and 2 opposed. During the 3rd round of voting, Metro decided to forfeit their vote, so in the end, it was 2 against 1 in favor of canceling the award this year [TN: RTHK and Commercial Radio voted in favor, TVB voted against]. At the end of the meeting, the 4 stations agreed to make a joint announcement about the cancellation (which was supposed to take place yesterday).

However, it is rumored that TVB is dissatisfied with the results of the voting and therefore delayed the announcement of the cancellation yesterday. After news of the rumored cancellation was leaked to the media, it became a hot topic amongst all of the major record companies. According to sources, Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG) was extremely unhappy with the news, as their ‘number one sister’ Joey Yung won the award last year and was in a good position for a repeat win this year, so if the award is cancelled, it is unfair to Joey. When the reporter called EEG’s administrative chairman Ng Yu to seek clarification on the matter, he responded: “I have not received notification; let me understand the matter first.”

RTHK’s spokesperson Fung Wai Tong admitted that a decision was made during their meeting 2 days ago and plans were made to announce yesterday, however TVB indicated that they need to have upper management review before they can release a joint statement, so currently, they are waiting for TVB’s response. Asked if the award will be cancelled this year, Fung Wai Tong responded: “Not going to respond right now.” Metro Radio’s spokesperson responded: “RTHK didn’t organize the meeting very well – the topic of canceling the award only came up during the end of October meeting…with it being so close to the various award ceremonies, it’s unfair to all the record companies and artists.” As for Commercial Radio and TVB, neither station responded to requests for comment.

There are many different comments, even TVB's other anniversary series Gun Metal Grey's male lead Felix Wong is in on the discussions. Yesterday Felix wrote on Weibo after watching No Regrets, he joked that he wanted to present Evergreen with the "The Star Within Star" award: "Selfish, greedy, abusing power, bullying, stealing someone's wife, insult subordinates - you can do it all. Aimee Chan becomes an "angry youth" participating in demonstrations

Posted by Admin 0 comments
Recently busy shooting for TVB sitcom Some Day, Aimee Chan plays an "angry youth" (TN: the term refers to young people who don't agree with the Chinese society and sought reform) and is a girl who greatly fights for the environment. For this role, she spent a lot of time on Youtube watching a college student at Hong Kong University (Chan Hau Man) clips to get advice. Aimee said: "The role is challenging, she is a young girl who is radical, similar to Chan Hau Man, so I went on Youtube to watch her clips."

Has Aimee participated in demonstrations to express her views? She said: "Before when I studying overseas, I participated in a protest, but it wasn't that extreme because I'm not really an extremist, it's enough to just have my views expressed."

This time for Some Day, Aimee is fortunate to have the opportunity to work with veteran Louise Lee and took the advantage to learn acting from her. Is there pressure working with a veteran? She said: "A little, Louise's acting is amazing, I always think about how I can do better too."

Speaking of her one month break to go back to Toronto visit her family, after re-charging, she returns full of energy. She said: "It's already been two years since I've been back in Toronto. This time, I went back to see my friends, some of them I haven't seen them for over 10 years, feels very relaxing."

Miss "Porkchop" HK Toby Chan makes Top 3 in MCI 2010

Posted by Admin 0 comments

(Left to right: #6 Toby Chan, #18 Cindy Chang, #19 Eliza Sam)

Tomorrow night, the Miss Chinese International Pageant 2010 will be held in Polo Club Plaza in Tianjin Grand Hotel. The 24 contestants were rehearsing in their bikinis. In the past, no matter if it's the body figure or appearance, MCI would bring some surprises to viewers, but this year the quality is clearly not as good. Among the contestants, #6 Toby Chan representing Hong Kong, #18 Cindy Chang representing Toronto and #19 Eliza Sam representing Vancouver were the ones that met standards.

When Toby Chan was running for Miss Hong Kong, Netizens criticized that she was a "porkchop" Miss HK, even the CNN report described it as the "Porkchop Event". However, because this year's MCI qualities have gone downhill, she becomes one of the Top 3. Toby expressed that her goal in participating in MCI is to complete the entire event and not to reach top 3. She does not hope to have too much pressure on herself. When speaking of this year's qualities not being as good as last year, does she feel that her chances of winning is higher? She said: "In the past, I didn't really pay attention because I was still studying overseas. But every one of us has different qualities, I personally will not go compare." Asked who are the top 3 in her heart? She expressed #5 (Lu Bai), #19 (Eliza Sam) and #24 (Yoyo Yang).

During the bikini rehearsal, the contestants voted #5 Lu Bai for "Miss Friendship". Lu Bai expressed that she felt happy and surprised to be named Miss Friendship because her origin is Shandong and this is the first time most contestants have been to Tianjin, she is very willing to help them out. Speaking of the Miss Friendships most likely will lose the top 3 position, she expressed that she does not agree because she felt that the most important part of the contest is establishing friendship with the other contestants and not who loses out on being the top 3. She said: "Actually today during rehearsal, we were all starting to feel unwilling to part, #19 Eliza was a little emotional too." Asked who she would vote for? She said #6 Toby Chan and reveals that when the contestants were training in Hong Kong, Toby provided the most care.

The Miss Chinese International Pageant 2010 is held on Saturday November 6, 2010 at 8:30pm HKT.

Wayne Lai earns money to buy detached house

Posted by eujean lee 0 comments

Wayne Lai, Sheren Tang and Susan Tse attended an opening ceremony of a furniture outlet yesterday. Recently Wayne Lai has been going all way out to look for money, but he revealed that because earlier this year he was busy filming series so his income this year might be lesser compared to last year, now he has to work hard to earn more money. Wayne revealed that all these while he has been wanting to buy a detached house, "The last time I saw the lowest was $20 million, I haven't saved enough money. If I sold off Kowloon Tong later would be good, now it rose more than a million, that time I let it go at $8 million, all these while when I sell off my properties, I don't really earn much."

Wayne felt that this year's TV Queen is between Sheren Tang and Charmaine Sheh, Sheren expressed, "Thank you everyone for your great love, that is already giving me 2 out of 3 quarter of the award, so I will make half of the dress for the ceremony first, why not have 2 awards this year then we don't have to compete." Speaking about Sheren Tang going back to Mainland to film series which was heavily invested ($4 million), she said, " One moment they say I have no work, another moment they say I earn more than $4 million, just don't cause me to get investigated." Sheren also exposed that she likes the smell of furnitures. Regarding the average ratings of No Regrets, Susan didn't feel dissapointed and felt that the ratings would go higher.

Last night, William and a group of EEG singers Joey Yung, Vincy Chan and Sherman Chung attended an event. William was asked if he knows Ah Sa's divorce is completed or not? He said that since the first day (that they announced the relationship), he and Ah Sahas faced a lot of rumors. He did not ask her because everyone has their own privacy, he trusts her 100%. If Ah Sa is dating him while still being Mrs. Cheng, does he feel awkward? He said that what the magazine wrote may not be true, Ah Sa has already explained everything in that press conference with Ronald, other things he is not sure of and let the lawyer handle it. Since the day he stepped out of the airport with Ah Sa to face the media, he laready supports Ah Sa 100%. There are several different versions and angles to the rumors, he hopes everyone is happy. Is Ah Sa aware of the report? He did not think too much about it, he only found out through the media.

Miriam Yeung brainwashed forgot Ronald

As for Ronald's old lover Miriam Yeung was asked about the issue. She said that it's not convenient for her to respond, they are both adults and should know how to handle it. Is the Ronlad she knows someone who liked to drag the relationships? She said that she's only familiar with her husband's issues and that her memory is ver limited, so she often brainwashes herself. She only remembers what happened in the last 10 years.

Joey, Vicny and Sherman support Ah Sa

Joey Yung expressed that every one has their own privacy. She does not know if Ah Sa is divorced already! Recently she's been busy rehearsing, the day before she rehearsed so much she collapsed. Her good sisters also don't have much time. It was said that Ah Sa is possibility dating William while still being Mrs. Cheng? She said that she's not sure, adults know how to handle it. Vincy and Sherman can see that Ah Sa and William are very sweet together, rumors will not affect them, they mutually support each other.
