Miriam Yeung's new song was not out of tune, recording "happy" version

Posted by eujean lee 0 comments

After Miriam Yeung signed up with Capital Artist, while she was recording her famous song (飲酒思源), she was hit by asthma. When she was singing at a high tone, she went out of tune. Miriam will record a perfect version. She exposed through the phone that, the last part of the song will be singing with a 6 years old kid, the version of two songs would be totally different. The single version would be more "sad", and we used another way to present the duet version, the result would be more "happy". Actually Keith Chan (composer and producer) already thought of second version of the recording of first version, so that's why we came up with a remix version. She stressed that there is no cancellation of first version, both versions would be in the new CD, " we can't collect back water that has been poured out."

Keith Chan also explained that the part which was thought that was out of tune was actually set higher on purpose.

Michelle Ye winning HKFA Best Supporting Actress award

Michelle reveals other half's requirement: My other half must be in the industry

On the night of HKFA, Michelle Ye was filled with warm tears, even upon returning to backstage, her eyes were still red. The day right after the awards, Michelle flew back to Shanghai to continue filming series 'Guo Se Tian Xiang'. Life continues while work is forever ahead of life. Michelle has come into the movie industry for 5 years since leaving the reliable income of hers as the TVB fa dan in 2005, and as a newbie back then, she lowered her pride the lowest possible. She said she did not mind be it as the female lead or female supporting, she is happy to participate even if it was just dubbing, she does not feel that it is a waste of time, "If it really helps a friend, I feel very happy too, its worthy of my efforts despite the quantity. Fan Bing Bing in 'Bodyguards and Assassins' was also nominated in HKFA, if she had won, I'd be happy too, because I contributed (dubbing) too." Her appreciation speech that night are still ringing in ears: Even if you are just a backstage who prepares a simple prop, it is too a contribution. With this logic, the emotions and tears that night must have been the happiness from recognition given. However, she said: "I was emotional because I was afraid I might miss thanking someone, this award is not a mere recognition for me, I do not think a lot of people have changed their opinion about me just because of this award, be it my attitude towards work or my passion, what was there is still there, nothing changes overnight just because of this award."

Meeting the important people in the movie industry"Biggest achievement is friendship and kinship"

The hardship of venturing into the movie industry is undeniable, but Michelle Ye knows well to be grateful: "I think the memories behind and this award becomes perfect, (they) witnessed our experience." She repeatedly highlighted this point that the crew and cast were close as a family when filming 'Accident'. Producer Johnny To and Director Cheng Pou Sui filmed for as long as 17 months. When initially joining this 'male dominated crew', Michelle felt very nervous but after few days she realized "everyone is very nice and friendly". She said she got to know a lot of good friends through filming 'Accident' such as Richie Ren, Louis Koo, Cheng Pou Sui, "Having these few friends is good enough for a lifetime." When going to Venice for the film festival, Michelle Ye who grew up with her divorced father felt that it was just like a family going for a vacation, exceptionally warm.

How Michelle came to the movie industry was a pure coincident. In 2005 when she was filming Mainland series 'World's Finest', Director Wang Jing asked if she was interested to progress into the movie industry, and then led her towards Media Asia Films under Mr. Lam Kin Ngok. Michelle Ye who was then known as the successor of Jessica Hsuan, was once advised by Jessica not to simply leave such a 'reliably shady' tree, however now that she has found another big tree, "Maybe I'm lucky, in Media Asia, Dante Lam, Alan Mak did not know who I am, but they requested me to film, and it all started rolling after the first, I've to date worked with each of them for two to three times." In the recently released 'Fire of Conscience', Leon Lai and Richie Ren both like to call her as 'Chu Lui' (pig girl), Michelle said this is because she is often very 'chu' (blur), the two big brothers are earnestly introducing boyfriends to her, yet she complained matchmaking as outdated. While filming 'Fire of Conscience', Vivian Hsu appeared glamorously and beautifully causing Richie Ren to give up his career for his beauty, while Michelle Ye instead cut off her long hair and carried an AK47 running around the streets with a thick bearded Leon Lai, and is as happy, because the filming requires such appearance and to avoid injuries: "Chin Ka Lok was the action director of the movie, everyone taught me, tipped me, I became the most protected species (of the crew)."

The one who influenced Michelle ye most is none other than her said 'mentor' To Sir, Johnny To. "Back then when I just left TVB, it was really hard to film a movie, there was no such case in the recent ten years, no one gives a TV actress a chance. However, To Sir has the spirit of a warrior, he felt that this girl can do it, and discards all other objections and insisted to use me. Actually, I did not know him back then, it was not because we knew each other well that we worked together." Meanwhile, Johnny To's personal teachings influenced her deeply, "His topics are forever within the movie, he is like a warrior, using the wisdom in life in movies, he gives all in into his movies." Last year, the crew followed Johnny To to Cannes for the film festival, Michelle watched 17 movies, "Very happy to be able to go to the festival, able to feel foreigners' passion towards movies, everyone went watching movies, it is a happy moment. There is no VIP (watching movies), doesn't matter if you're a big star, you still need to queue, need to be under the sun and queue for two hours, and if its full you're not allowed to enter. Although it is quite pitiful, but we are not sad."

Hard to forget her roots
"All my basic skills are taught by TVB"

Michelle Ye was studying her tertiary studies in United States' Wellesley College, her seniors include Hillary, Song Mei Ling, etc, at 19 years of age, she participated in Miss Chinese International pageant and won the crown as well as 'Most Classic Beauty' award, and becoming TVB's fadan through 'Eternal Happiness' after joining for just a mere two years. She wished to explore further and thus at the age of 25 she progressed into the movie industry. Her colleagues of same batch include Tavia Yeung and Myolie Wu who are now the TVB fadan, while she has gone for the big screen, be it the theme or the market or the industry, the movie definitely has a bigger world. However, Michelle definitely has not forgotten her roots, in her nervous appreciation speech this year, she did not forget to thank her previous company TVB, her sincerity and loyalty is moving. "All my performance skills, basic skills are taught by TVB, my relationship with my colleagues (previously in TVB) are still as good."The biggest dilemma when leaving TVB back then, "TVB is my first job, friends around me have been working in TVB since their teens and cannot imagine leaving (TVB)." According to the later internal reorganization of TVB, Michelle Ye could be considered Virginia Lok's subordinate, meanwhile Ms Lok and Mr Lam Kin Ngok are very close. When Michelle left back then, there was no obstacle, instead, 'wanted youngsters to have better advancement', and Michelle, unlike certain celebrities who were disregarded just before leaving, the company instead gave her another leading script of 'The Herbalist Manual'. Michelle Ye reckons that she is very lucky because she has good 'social relations', she meets with all the kind people, the one thing she dreads leaving behind is the relationship built with the previous company.

Love life as in movies
"Appear coldly calm outside, inner heart is emotionally rich"

The outer world evaluates Michelle Ye as two extremes. Few years back when leaving TVB, she faced with the challenges of changing her career track from the series industry to the movie industry, from fadan to a mature role, to become a celebrity before becoming an actress, and therefore shoot sexy photos, having rumors, being savagely hunted by Hong Kong media as though the shark charging upon sensing the tempts of blood, and she was crowned the 'Queen of Rumors' for a period of time. Until now, the gossip post of her ten most rumored boyfriends are still a high hit on the net, the list includes, Wu Jing, Xiong Ni, Ye Maoqing, 'Shell King' Chan Kwok Kiong, Godfather Zheng Yutong, etc, where she only admitted to Benny Chan who was once her boyfriend. In the abundance of rumors and gossips, it seems to have molded an actress who never stops striving to succeed, "There is no need to respond anymore, it does not matter for those who does not know me to misunderstand me, while those who know me will never misunderstand me in the first place. I seldom watch entertainment news, I'll do my best in my work, and live to the fullest my life, I don't give much attention to such news (gossips)."She confessed being the dumbest among her friends, while others deem her as a very talented one, it is only on her blog, that her inner emotions can be seen. Michelle revealed that she has read 'Zi Zhi Tong Jian' and 'A Dream of Red Mansions', her blog is richly filled with variety of literature (ancient Chinese). Michelle hopes for her many friends to forgive and understand her, because she is too busy, she has not much time to put in (blog writing). When receiving awards, her phrase 'I see you' to Louis Koo seemed to suggest some ambiguous feelings, now everytime Louis Koo is mentioned, she seemed to be able to talk the topic away. However, she admitted she has someone to progress in relationship but is too busy and has chosen to put it away for the time being, "I think its mutual understanding, won't miss it, I have the confidence. I hope to find someone in the industry, at least both of us are passionate about movies, my friends are mostly people in the industry, thus my boyfriend or husband should be too, might not have too many topics in common with people outside the industry."

"Jade Solid Gold"’s low ratings are not due to the royalties dispute?

Posted by Admin 0 comments
TVB’s music program "Jade Solid Gold" is breaking records – lowest rating records that is. With overall ratings of only 10 points, how much of this is due to the ban on artists from the Big 4 record companies? As a result of the royalties dispute with TVB, majority of the Big 4 record companies’ artists have appeared on ATV’s and i-Cable’s music programs, however it doesn’t seem like this helped those stations’ ratings at all.

The real reason for the dismal ratings – which everyone is well aware of deep down – is because fewer and fewer people (specifically HK audiences) are concerned about the local music industry anymore.

In reality, ‘countdown’ programs similar to "Jade Solid Gold" are also put on by local radio stations every week – it is unclear how many people tune in to listen to the radio station music countdowns every week and very few people actually talk about it – so it seems that the only ones concerned are the record companies and the singers themselves.

Music programs and the music industry itself are very closely intertwined – when the music industry is lively and bustling and a singer’s popularity soars, music programs benefit from increased audience viewership (or more audiences tuning in for radio programs). With the industry in a slump, "Jade Solid Gold"’s drop in ratings won’t just be a ‘one-time occurrence’ – it will just be a matter of time before the ratings drop past the ‘dire straits’ level.

Indeed, for a powerhouse station like TVB – who is used to seeing high ratings due to its dominance – 10 points in ratings is definitely scary. If this continues, there is a high probability that "Jade Solid Gold" will be moved from TVB’s ‘golden hour’ timeslot. With its experience, TVB knows how to play the ratings game – it’s not a difficult task for them at all, so their variety show department heads most likely already know what next steps they need to take. Since TVB’s other variety shows have good ratings, it makes sense that if they reduce the amount of music-related material and increase the ones with higher ratings, then more audiences may tune in. It seems obvious….

TVB’s ban on the Big 4 record companies’ artists has resulted in the same artists (mostly their own contracted singers and those from EEG – with whom they have a close relationship) appearing on "Jade Solid Gold" week after week. True, this has weakened "JSG"’s power and standing in the music industry, but to be honest, it does not have a huge impact on the ratings. Most audiences who watch TV programs usually do so for leisure and for the entertainment factor – other outside ‘factors’ could influence why some audiences don’t watch, but are less common.

To give an example: even with the ‘plagiarism controversy’ surrounding TVB’s currently airing series "Mysteries of Love", not only have the ratings not been effected at all, more and more audiences are tuning in to watch, pushing the ratings to 31 points just in the last week. This proves that most audiences are not effected by issues of originality or negative criticism related to shows they want to watch.

With "JSG", the biggest problem contributing to the low ratings is that the content of the show is not attractive to most audiences. Honestly, having some artists go up on stage and sing live week after week only ‘entertains’ a small fraction of the audience – primarily the fans of that particular artist. In comparisons, having ordinary people compete and ‘out-sing’ each other – as they do in "The Voice" -- is much more attractive to audiences.

The fact that audiences want to watch a singing competition more than a music program demonstrates how disappointed most people are with the current state of the HK music industry.

In watching a singing competition, at least there are professional judges present who will give constructive criticism when someone sings poorly. With "JSG" however, when an artist goes on the show and sings poorly, the ‘fans’ down below will still “wave their banners and scream loudly” – so how compelled will audiences be to watch then? Perhaps they should have judges go on "JSG" and start ‘critiquing’?

She also said Kara winning the award is the result of doing good deeds and volunteer for a long time."

But she said she has higher chance in winning "Best Support Actress," because her characters in "Rosy Business II" and "Can't Buy My Love" are very good ones.

Ah Jeh Gets Mad, 3 'Gods' Support Rumor Isn't True

Posted by Admin 0 comments
TVB's "Fun With Liza and Gods" has been having good ratings, and popularity of the three gods rises as well. But host Liza Wang (Ah Jeh)'s singing segment is criticized by netizens and opened groups to request Ah Jeh stop singing. Lately a magazine reported the show plans to have a second season in September and Ah Jeh would be replaced by Elvina Kong.

Yesterday Ah Jeh and the three gods Wong Cho Lam, Louis Yuen, Johnson Lee were recording fo "Fun With Liza and Gods." Ah Jeh was asked whether she would be out from season two since she's always criticized by netizens, and Elvina would replace her? She said: "I don't know about this rumor. Netizens have been criticizing me since I got married, can't see too much, don't know what type of thinking is that, I won't mind. It's not confirmed to do season two yet, have to ask producer. If company arranges, will definitely do it."

Louis also doesn't believe in that rumor, and supports Ah Jeh: "Who said that? Ah Jeh's character is very valuable, can balance many things. Without her, how can there be 'Fun With Liza and Gods,' I didn't receive an notification that Elvina would replace Ah Jeh, she's currently doing 'Super Trio Game Master.'"

As for the report, producer Ho Siu Wai felt ridiculous. They didn't begin talking about season two. She said earlier company once thought of doing 20+ episodes in season one, but because some artistes have to film series and have other jobs, it's hard to schedule, so can only do 15 episodes. Although they brought up about season two, but nothing is confirmed. Whether they would include the original cast including Ah Jeh in season two? Ho said she doesn't even know whether she's the producer or not by then, most importantly have to look at everyone's schedule. She felt the report is not factual and has an aim. The show is a show to bring happiness to everyone, but negative reports upset everyone, which isn't good.

Yesterday besides impersonating commercial characters in "Fun With Liza and Gods," they show also invited Skye Chan and Justin Lo as performing guests. When they were taking group photo before the show, Justin didn't show up on time. Ah Jeh joked he won't show up unless with a cap. When he finally showed up with a Chinese pavilion cap, Ah Jeh teased him again: "Your cap today isn't good!" Justin felt embarrassed immediately.

Ada Choi refuses to share marriage life

Posted by Admin 0 comments
Ada Choi and good sister Athena Chu both attended the "Evangelism" dress rehearsal. Ada revealed life with her church friends and shared her experience with God. Asked why she didn't share her marriage life? Ada smiled: "I only have 2 years experience, others have 30 years of experience. (Then you can share your newly wed life experience!) I'll share with you in private! I will talk about my life changes, life experiences and topics about God."

Athena Chu emotionally regretted the "struggle in the light, fight in the dark" in the entertainment circle. There are many times where others were hurt because someone wanted to fight for fame. Asked if someone gave her a loose elbow? She said: "loose elbow is not a big deal. Many times people in Mainland and Hong Kong grow up differently, think differently in terms of work."

Charlene Choi and Li Bing Bing fights to kiss Louis Koo

Posted by Admin 0 comments
The film "Triple Trap" directed by Derek Lee is schedule to release in July. In the movie, Louis Koo and Daniel Wu's many gun shooting scenes are full of flavor. Louis was also arranged to be romantically connected with both Charlene Choi and Li Bing Bing. Louis smiled and said that he's not sure if the director knew Daniel got married, so he deliberately did not arrange any love relationships for him, ending his fate with beautiful women.

In the movie, Ah Sa and Li Bing Bing's roles both fights for Louis. Ah Sa plays a nurse who is soft inside and tough outside, which is very different from Li Bing Bing's tough policewoman role. She said that for every scene, the director had to explain her character's emotions, giving her a good experience on acting.

Raymond Lam shares favorite fashion styles, admires Maggie Cheung's style

Posted by Admin 0 comments
Handsome Raymond Lam has always had Maggie Cheung Man Yuk as his idol. Besides admiring her good acting, he also admires Maggie's fashion sense.

Raymond said: "Maggie has been my idol all along. She's usually quite casual, simple dress and is still full of charm. Because she's so natural, no matter what she wears, she looks pretty. I remember back then her costume for "Centre Stage" she was dressed in a Qipao, taught me an unforgettable moment. Actually, I have always thought girls in a qipao are the prettiest. As for her acting, don't need to say it, she's definitely at senior level, every performance brings applaud from audience."

Asked about Raymond's valued modern trend? As a Switzerland watch brand Ernest Borel's spokesperson, he of course praises them. He said: "There are more and more popular watch brands for men in the market now. A total confusion, but what really caught my eye is the Ernest Borel's watches, they have many different styles with much detail in every one. They have elegant designs, no matter if the watch is accommodating a suit or casual wear, it matches well. For this reason, I have already brought several different styles myself to use in time of need."

Bosco Wong promoting his EP in Mongkok

Posted by Admin 0 comments
Bosco Wong was promoting his second EP "Bravo" in a record shop in Mongkok the other night. He has attracted over hundred onlookers. He even gave out printed money with his picture on it to his fans. The scene was such a chaos that he had to stop giving out the paper money half way. Over 300 copies of his EP were sold out that night. One of his fans bought 70 copies.

Earlier, Bosco promised if the sale reaches 150,000, he would show his bare bottom. But that night, he changed his tone, he said "2,000 copies make 150,000 HKD, I don't think my bottom is that cheap. It is more expensive, let's say if I sell 150,000 copies of EP, than I will show my bum. (Did you ask your rumored girl friend to buy a copy?) She is so rich, she should buy 50 copies at least ! (Maybe she doesn't want you to show people your bum, that is why she didn't buy your EP.) My bum is OK, it is beautiful. She can show her shoulder too, I support her! (Are you hoping she will buy 50 copies?) That depends whether she wants me to show my bum! But earlier, I did a survey. Some people want to see my bum, some don't. (Do you want to show your bum?) It doesn't bother me, I don't care. If I can sell 150,000 copies, which is quite impossible, I can show you anything. Nowadays, it is impossible to sell 150,000 copies." Bosco printed 10,000 copies for the first batch and people from all over the world have placed the order for over 5,000 copies. He may still achieve his target. The reporter asked if he reaches his target sale, what would he be showing? Bosco said "I had my pictures taken showing my "dot" part. The advertising company won't let me release those pictures. If I can reach my target, I will use those pictures to do a picture album and give out the EP with the picture album. I am not worried showing my real chest and real bum." Bosco pointed out that all the proceed of his EP sale will go to the earthquake victims of Yushu. He considers it as his responsibility being a Chinese.

Astrid Chan Will Not Waste A Minute Nor Second in Her Life

Posted by Admin 0 comments
Astrid Chan Chi Ching has a very busy work schedule. In 1994, she returned from Toronto, Canada to participate in the Miss Hong Kong pageant. That year, she hosted over three hundred programs for TVB. Due to her fluency in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English, Astrid is often been in demand as a Master of Ceremonies (MC), allowing her to earn side income on a daily basis.

There are only twenty-four hours in a day. If a woman worked a nine to five job, she still has to take care of her family after returning home, which is a demanding schedule. An artist’s schedule is unstable, with day and night hours often reversed. Astrid is married and also a good mom of a 6-year-old daughter. How is it possible for Astrid to allocate her time? Perhaps many working mothers would love to learn from Astrid!

Astrid was very excited in sharing her experience, “Compared to working for the ATV news department in the past, I have more free time now. No matter what time I return home, I always wake up at 7 AM to eat breakfast with my daughter. She is attending an international school. I will read the children’s newspaper with her and then drive her to school.” Astrid emphasized, “I do not have any private time for myself. For example, if I accepted a MC job and there are three hours before the start of the show, I will first pick up my daughter from school. We live in Tai Po. After dropping her off at home, I will then go to my designated location for the MC event.”

Tai Po is located far away [from the heart of Hong Kong]. Isn’t the commute tiring? “I quite enjoy it.” Astrid said that if you enjoy the things you do in life, you will have more motivation to do it and not consider it to be a pain. Astrid believes in pursuing this perspective.

“Aside from my work, I spend the rest of my time at home. Before my husband and daughter return from work and school, I will finish all my work and not take any business calls nor chit-chat with friends on the phone.” Astrid normally refuses to attend friends’ invitation to dimsum and tea outings. “That is unless they have emotional problems and need to find someone to talk to.” Astrid understands that family time should focus on quality, not quantity. “I will wait for my daughter to fall asleep before going online and preparing my notes for work the next day.”

Mother Willing to Sacrifice Twenty Years of Her Life

Although only 6-years-old, Astrid’s daughter is already her best friend. “She will go clothes shopping with me and give me advice. She will tell me the latest gossip among her friends. She’s precocious for her age and asked me why Grandma recently got re-married.”

Astrid is able to display her talent at work due to her husband, Cheung Kam Wing’s, sensibility and support. “My husband said that it would be a waste for a woman to not work after so many years of schooling.” Astrid studied at Toronto University and majored in Film Studies. “He said that when a woman does not work and has too much free time, she will spend her time drinking tea at the restaurant and gossiping.”

Cherishing her husband’s remarks, Astrid added, “When society needs you, you should do your job well. When no one hires you, then you should not complain about it. My husband offered his full support for me to work. He promised to help out if anything comes up at home.”

A Near-Death Experience

As a young girl, Astrid realized the importance of not wasting a second of her time. When Astrid was four or five years old, she was on the verge of death. Thus, she will always value the importance of time. “At the time, I possessed a lingering flu that did not clear. My mother took me to a variety of doctors, who prescribed many different drug medications. My white blood cell count dropped significantly and symptoms of leukemia appeared. One doctor said, ‘Mrs. Chan, I have already tried my best.’” Astrid’s mother prayed and said, ‘If Astrid gains back her health, I am willing to shorten my life span by twenty years.’” Perhaps a mother’s love for her daughter moved the heavens. Mrs. Chan frequently prepared pig liver soup for Astrid to drink and she miraculously recovered.

Astrid said emphatically, “Heaven allowed me to collect my life again for a reason. My mother was willing to shorten her life in order to extend mine. I can not waste my life.”

Preparing for a Rainy Day

After growing up, Astrid had a strong love for learning. There are many lawyers in her family. Astrid’s husband and younger brother are both lawyers. Astrid also took a law course at London University because she felt that she did not understand the legal jargon spoken by her husband and brother. She attended the classes four nights during the week. Afterwards, Astrid felt that the classes were taking away from her time with her daughter, so she discontinued the class.

Astrid explained her yearning to learn, “Since I am not smart enough, I have to work harder.” When Astrid was pregnant, she took some classes on game therapy for children. This would help her in understanding her daughter’s personality when growing up. She even has a fitness trainer’s certification, in case her career in the entertainment industry is not sustainable in the long-term. Astrid often makes advance preparations for a “rainy day” in life.

She also studied a program in Taiwan involving human innate intelligence and studied face and fingerprint reading. “Everyone has different talents. I reduced unreasonable demands towards other people and accepted their shortcomings.” Astrid also studied physiognomy. In the future if she were to become a business owner, she will choose to hire good-hearted and hardworking people and would rather give them additional time to learn on the job. In March, a friend gave Astrid some investment money to open a beauty salon. Astrid took a course on skin-caring techniques. “If I do not know myself, it’s hard to teach other people beauty techniques.”

A Cheating Father

Astrid appears to be a cheerful and happy person. But when she was growing up, her childhood was not happy at all. “My father was a very handsome man. After marrying my mother, he continued to flirt and have affairs with other women. My mother was very upset by my father’s behavior and they argued for many years.” When adults argued, children suffer in pain too. “My parents continued this way and did not divorce until I was eighteen years old.”

Astrid’s father owned an electronic watch business. At one point, the business grew into a very profitable operation. But he also filed for bankruptcy two to three times as well. Despite the tough financial times, Astrid’s father continued to have affairs with other women. Her mother had to assemble jewelry necklaces to make money to pay the family’s expenses.

Since Astrid’s grandfather was the Mayor of Keelung City in Taiwan, the entire Chan family moved to there. While in Taiwan, Astrid learned to speak fluent Mandarin, which became a valuable business skill later in her life. Afterwards, Mrs. Chan moved to Singapore to work and met her second husband there.

The detail oriented yet sensitive young Astrid was very upset by her parents’ constant fighting. Due to the stress, she started having migraine attacks. “My hair reeked of safflower oil [to mitigate the migraines].” Finally Astrid could not withstand the family environment anymore and asked to attend school in Toronto at the age of fourteen. Looking back now, the pain has passed. Astrid said, “I have to thank Heaven for my past experiences. I learned how to love other people, to find happiness amidst despair, and to save money.”

Witnessing Her Mother’s Attempted Suicide

Astrid’s mother was frustrated with her husband and apologized to the children for their frequent quarrels. Astrid comforted her mother, “From watching your pain, I learned from your experience and know that love can not be forced.” A Buddhist monk once told Mrs. Chan, “You owed Mr. Chan a debt in your previous life. Thus in this life, you are destined to settle the debts before you are free.”

It took many years of pain and suffering before Mrs. Chan freed herself. When Astrid was sixteen years old, Astrid’s mother attempted suicide. Unable to let go of the despair in the relationship, Mrs. Chan wallowed some sleeping pills. Astrid, her younger brother, and younger sister called the ambulance and took her to the hospital. “At that moment, I was very upset with my mother. Why did she have to give up on herself? She gave my father so many chances, but he continued to give those chances to other women.” At the hospital, the nurses said harshly, “It must have been you children tormenting your mother towards suicide.” The truth remained unspoken.

Despite witnessing her mother’s suffering in her marriage, this did not make Astrid afraid of marriage. Since Astrid was born under the Cancer sign, she has a strong love for family. Astrid learned a valuable lesson from her mother: when the relationship is over, there is no need to hang on and force matters. Currently, Mrs. Chan still works at her second husband’s law firm, processing documents. Mrs. Chan often tells her children, “I did not give many things to you.” Mrs. Chan continues to be self-reliant today and told her children not to worry about herself. She bought several insurance policies and designated her children as beneficiaries.

Husband is a Smart Man

Despite her loving relationship with her husband, Astrid explained that she worked hard to be self-sustainable. “If one day, due to certain circumstances, I have to raise my daughter on my own, I will have the savings and the ability to do so. I want my daughter to continue her studies under a worry-free environment.”

Witnessing recent financial recessions, Astrid understood that the economy could deteriorate at any time. “Fortunately, I still have work offers. This relieves my husband’s financial pressure.” Since Astrid spent her teenage years in Toronto, her views are very independent. She maintains separate finances from her husband, Cheung Kam Wing. She shares the household bills, including the maids’ salaries and their daughter’s school tuition fees.

Following this arrangement in finances, Astrid hopes that her husband is happier. “I intend to grow old with him; he will be my life-long partner. I want us to enjoy the fruits of our hard efforts together. From his earnings, he can buy a few more computers and video games. Using my own money makes me especially happy. I don’t have to watch my husband’s feelings when I buy a shirt or purse.” Astrid’s husband, Mr. Cheung, recently bought her a two carat diamond ring. Astrid said, “But I do not wear these things!” He said, “It is worth buying.”

Meeting people from many walks of life, Astrid considered her husband to be a smart man. “He is three months younger than I am. He frequently thinks ten steps ahead of me. If you give him a few hints, he will be able to assess the entire situation. He is very detail-oriented, has strong analytical skills, and is usually right 90% of the time. He gives me a great sense of security.”

Sheila Chan Suk Lan was the matchmaker for Astrid and Mr. Cheung. “Sheila organized a group gathering. When I met him, I knew he was the one.” After dating for two weeks, they moved in with each other. “Our love is fated by Heaven. When two people get along well, they do not necessarily need to get married.”

No Emotional Games

With her straightforward character, Astrid does not like to play guessing games. If she likes someone, she will be clear about it. “I support a couple to live together. When a couple initially date, they will be very polite with each other. But after living together, then their true selves and weaknesses will emerge.” Due to uterus complications, it is extremely difficult for Astrid to get pregnant. After living together for over a year, Astrid suggested, “Let’s live together for another three months. If I get pregnant, then we can get married.” Heaven gave Astrid with a daughter. While pregnant, Astrid and Mr. Cheung got married in the United Kingdom.

After giving birth to her daughter, Astrid witnessed the attentiveness of Mr. Cheung. When Astrid was resting in the hospital after her daughter was born, Mr. Cheung still had to go to trial in court everyday. In the evening, he would carry a large pot of ginger water to the hospital, for her post-partum use. He brought pork patty with rice for her to eat. “I will never forget about his attentiveness and thoughtfulness in my life.”

Astrid is a Tibetan Buddhist, but Mr. Cheung does not share the same religious faith. Sometimes when they argue, Astrid will put a halt to the fighting by saying, “Let’s not fight. It takes a certain destiny to get married. It may have taken eight past lives before we were able to be together in this life time.” At this stage, Mr. Cheung would usually stop arguing. Trust between a couple is very important. He has complete confidence in Astrid when she travels for work and meets other people. “His trust in me is my blessing.”

Epilogue

When Astrid was young, her mother trusted and allowed her to go study abroad. Astrid’s mother said, “Astrid, you are going to study by yourself at such a young age. But I trust you, you are my daughter. You will turn out good.” Due to Astrid’s mother’s trust, this was the belief Astrid lived by for the rest of her life. “At that time, many of my friends took drugs. Even if they offered me drugs, I resisted the temptation. My mother trusted me so much, how can I hurt her?” Astrid’s strong will and principles stemmed from her mother’s trust.

Currently, Astrid will talk with her mother on the phone for half an hour every day. If her mother is having emotional problems and needs her help, Astrid will fly to Canada and console her. Astrid will also give her some of her personal savings to increase her sense of security. In Astrid’s mind, she is the best mother in the world.

Gillian Chung indifferent about Alex Fong and Stephy Tang's wedding rumor

Friday, June 04, 2010 Posted by claradead 0 comments

Gillian Chung and Alex Fong had a past, in 2004, where the sex scandal had surfaced and in 2005, the media reported of their Switzerland trip together. Also, the breakup between Edison and her had left their friendship broken. The day before, Gillian was asked if felt 'sour' when she knew about the alleged couple's marriage rumour, said that she too has plans to get married and took the initiative to ask the reporters for a good recommendation and declared she would get married immediately if they had one and not lose to the 'old love'.

Asking on behalf of the media

When asked if she knew of the couple's plans to get hitched, she answered quickly, "Of course not! I'm not a particularly nosey person, I don't even read the company's magazines. But even if I don't read, this question is unavoidable in an interview. There are many things you don't have to know, and this news doesn't concern me; I'll ask on the behalf of the media when I see him in 2 days!"

Questioned if she would give her blessings

She expressed that even if Charlene Choi was the one getting hitched, she did not see the need to know, as getting married only concerns the 2 involved parties and she would not be a busybody. Her indifference was questioned; didn't they had a good time with their friends in Switzerland then?

Asking the media if they had good recommendations

The reporters had asked if she was currently dating anyone to which she replied, "Do you have any good recommendations? If yes, I'll marry him immediately!" Asked if the company would approve, she snapped, "This is a joke!" And does she wish for a rich boyfriend so she can terminate her contract? She replied with with disgust that she did not like dating someone she had no feelings for. Can she accept a speed marriage? "Have tried on moments of impulse but it doesn't work out." But what if there was such a moment to which she retorted, "What if!"

The day before, while Gillian was shooting a new series of ads for an appliance store, she admitted that she was extremely pleased with the contract payment. Although she was not sure if this was the best paying ad, she believed that the company had gotten the best price. She did not comment on what the amount was, stating that if if the amount was too little, no one would believe; yet if it was too high, people would get startled. She said that she did not know the amount all these while as the amount went straight to the joint account she had with her mother, but it was a rough 5-figured sum monthly.

Ron Ng breaks out into the "bus" path

Posted by Admin 0 comments
Ron Ng has always had the comedic cells, can't believe that he can only successfully 'clear out his background' after 10 years since his entry into the entertainment circle. Ron feels that as long as there is hard work, audience definitely will see it: "Have been in the industry for several years, I have gone through a lot and gained experience. I understand the rules of the game in showbiz. There are many things you cannot avoid, including rumors and gossips. So, the first thing you can do is do your best, as long as there is hard work, people will definitely see it. (Acting in comedy series is a way to help you get out of the down time?) Not down time, it's just an experience. Of course life has its ups and downs, actually I'm still at the working diligently stage."

Ron expressed that "O.L Supreme" is his first sitcom playing as the smart "bus boy". To get the right costume and to get into character, Ron did a lot of homework beforehand. He said: "My past roles were often bad boys, so this bus boy role to me gives off an extremely fresh feeling. However because I don't have too many 'bus lover' friends, I had to do a lot of research online before filming started, doing all my preparations beforehand. I learned how to act as a 'bus boy', but that wasn't enough, so I had to change my hairstyle to make my image look more like a bus boy."

Dayo Wong Zhi Wah appeared as a guest for cable TV's program " Big Four Happiness". He laughed at William So for being the only member that has divorced before, and when would he "Give Fun" (Git Fun- marry in cantonese) again. William didn't know how to respond at that time. Dayo Wong Zhi Wah expressed that William and him are very close, "We were filming in the Mainland last time, we tried celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival together on a rickshaw, enjoying the moon with a mooncake.

He said, " Actually there's a big pressure being a guest because we don't know what would they be asking. Before this I attended Stephen Chan's program (志雲飯局), I nearly wanted to cry. I made preparations before I came this time, prepared some questions, when the time comes, I can throw back questions at them." (You want to be a host?) "Hosting this sort of program, either you have alot of friends, or you are an executive, I don't have much friends, the most I can record is four episodes. If I really host, the best is to film scenes at other countries, can play while I interview, when the guest is not focussed, I can ask about their true feelings."

Thursday, June 03, 2010 Posted by claradead 0 comments

Steven Ma revealed on Tuesday that he will be marrying his girlfriend, Vivian Xu, within the next two years, said Hong Kong media.

"It (marriage) will be one or two years down the road. Once our [relationship] has developed and our finances have reached a certain safety level, it will be time to turn a page in our lives," Ma told reporters, before going into more detail on his wedding plans.

"I am born in Hong Kong, so I will register my marriage and hold the wedding banquet here, though we may go overseas to shoot our wedding photos."

Ma added that he had been "thinking about getting married next year but hasn't set an exact date" and was actually saving up to get a place of his own.

"She is mature in her thinking. I am sometimes a male chauvinist and clearly in the wrong, but she bears with it and refuses to quarrel with me. Of course I usually apologise after that.

Teresa Carpio temporarily leaves "The Voice 2"

Posted by Admin 0 comments
As a judge in TVB’s weekly singing competition "The Voice: Season 2", Teresa Carpio has seemingly been on opposing sides from main judge Elisa Chan and the ‘fireworks’ between the 2 ladies seemed to escalate recently. Yesterday, there were reports that Teresa will be leaving "The Voice 2" and her judging spot will be replaced by Pal Sinn and Hanjin Tan.

Teresa accepted an interview with a radio station yesterday in which she clarified the situation. She says her ‘harshness’ is due to telling the truth and has nothing to do with any bitterness against Elisa. She also said that both she and Elisa are longtime friends and already in their mid-fifties, so they would not be mad at each other over exaggerated media reports. Teresa indicated that she is temporarily leaving "The Voice 2" because of some pre-arranged work that she has to return to Canada to do. After she returns to Hong Kong in July, she will be able to resume her judging responsibilities with "The Voice 2"

As for the reports of her being ‘most hated’ on the show due to her harsh remarks? Teresa responded that if this causes people to pay more attention to music and treat it seriously, then it is worth it. She says that when she teaches her own students, she is even more harsh because she believes that ‘a strict teacher produces quality students’ and helps them improve – her intention is not to humiliate others.

Teresa’s harsh comments toward 12-year old contestant Hardy Lam (who sang Jacky Cheung’s "Born to be Wild" last week and was eliminated) brought her some criticism – during the show, she actually reprimanded the boy’s parents as well, though her comments were edited out by TVB when the show actually aired. Teresa pointed out that in this situation [Hardy choosing the wrong song], both his parents as well as TVB need to take responsibility, as they should have questioned whether the song was appropriate for a 12 year old kid to sing. TVB’s explanation is that the contestants have the right to choose whatever songs they want to sing and they (TVB) cannot request for the contestants to change their songs. Teresa said that at one point, she had suggested that Hardy stop performing because she did not want him to embarrass himself in front of everyone: “Nowadays, a lot of people are just looking to stand out and make a name for themselves regardless of whether it is embarrassing or not. Whether they are able to sing well or not is of no concern to them.”

As for her ‘bickering’ with fellow judge Elisa Chan on the show, Teresa says that as judges, it is actually a good thing to share each other’s opinions, even if the opinions are different. This makes the judging more well-rounded, since Elisa Chan’s focus when judging is on singing skill whereas Teresa’s focus is on emotional expression of the song.

"The Voice 2" host Sammy Leung was surprised to hear that Teresa was leaving and that the episode they recorded a couple days ago would be her last. He says that Teresa’s participation as a judge has made the show a lot more interesting – especially her ‘chemistry’ with Elisa Chan. Sammy himself was once reprimanded by Teresa on the show [he was told not to laugh during a particular segment] and admits that he is a bit afraid of her. Sammy also revealed that in the last episode that Teresa recorded, her ‘bickering’ with Elisa will be even more heated. Asked if there will be ‘fireworks’ between the two, Sammy laughed and said that there were only ‘sparks’.
