Esther Kwan's series "The Season of Fate" has recently been airing on TVB. Esther hasn't been acting for 9 years but since her return many netizens have suggested that she has been casted in the wrong series. Yet it was not worth it because the producer of "The Season of Fate" Nelson Cheung is well known as "Cheung Poison". (Referring to his previous serious "A Matter of Customs" and "Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion" etc having low ratings and bad quality in storylines.) Netizens have criticized "The Season of Fate" storyline being really poor and reproducing old ideas.

Netizens stated that Esther's role "Sheung Chun" is copying Sheren Tang's "Sei Nai Nai", but it was obviously weaker. Sheung Chun needs to run the family business but Sei Nai Nai's personality was written more detailed and gave the audience more pleasure. The ideas of the love story were also criticized. Netizens felt that there were no surprises, it was the same old love story used over and over again. They targeted producer Nelson Cheung stating the following "Just knowing who produced the series, you can tell there won't be a good storyline. One word (Poor). Roger Kwok promoted the series a few months ago and was confident that the series had a good storyline. There was hope, but since watching the series it was nothing special".

Although the storyline has been heavily criticized, Esther and Roger still managed to save the ratings. Netizens claimed that fortunately nowadays people no longer watch a series because of a good storyline, instead they mainly watch their favourite artistes.
Esther received a lot of praise for her acting, many felt that her looks hadn't changed and her acting was still up to standard.

Netizens suggest Joyce Cheng would be more suitable potraying Michelle Yim's role

Michelle Yim challenges herself to portray a naive 16 year old girl since losing her memory in the series. She has had a good response for her young girl look image. However netizens have also suggested that Joyce Cheng would have been more suitable for the role.
