Thursday, December 24, 2009

TVB and HKRIA copyright disputes still has not been solved yet, yesterday TVB held a high profile press conference along with IFPI to announce their contract renewal, they expressed that the prices and terms are reasonable. Leo Ku, Kary Ng, Chita, TVB artistes Myolie Wu, Kate Tsui, Linda Chung and Raymond Lam attended. The issue with HKRIA has been passed to the Copyright Tribunal to resolve, TVB is clearly "shaving" HKRIA's eyebrows. TVB General Manager Stephen Chan expressed that TVB and IFPI have collaborated for many years, the contract renewal had some adjustments in royalties and in the end TVB felt the terms were reasonable.
However, Stephen denied that TVB and HKRIA had broke off in negotiations: "Big 4 had once given TVB suggestions, while TVB also gave them suggestions. But it is not understood why Big 4 set a deadline for a response before Christmas." He continued to say that TVB had already passed the issue to the Copyright Tribunal and has now entered the judicial process. Although we do not know when there will be a result, but an agreement probably will not happen before the award presentations."
As for the TVB music award presentations, they will not cut out the parts with the Big 4 singers, but Big 4 had phoned TVB responding that they do not allow TVB broadcast their music. Ng Yue also said that IFPI and TVB renewed their contract mainly because they wanted the local singers to be able to collaborate with TVB and to allow them to have more areas to develop.
