Sudden Weekly #748 - A Chip Off the Old Block: Mixture Of East And West

After watching Beyond drama, the reporter will now transform into Lau Sam Ho to write good things. The title is 'mixture of east and west'. To put it bluntly, it's copying/rip-off! The drama, A Chip Off The Old Block, will be airing after Beyond. One look at the story outline, everyone should recall about the Western series, Back to the Future, and the classic Hong Kong film, 72 Tenants! But copying is not wrong, as long as it's done well. The success of this drama depends a lot on the supporting cast, thus it should be watcheable.

So how much does this drama resemble Back to the Future, or 72 tenants? Everyone, let's have a look at the story outline: The story started with the typical 21st-century Hong Kong guy who's eager for success, Chor Ci. Due to an accident, he traveled back in time to the 1960s, and was being taken in by the No. 1 honest and loyal Chor Fun. Chor Ci, who's specialized in looking out for benefits, could not stand the honest man being too kind-hearted and often being taken advantage of by people. Thus he began to have conflicts with the people living under the same roof with them. He even taught Chor Fun on how to woo after ladies!

See, so everyone should know why this drama is a mixture of the east and west lah! It's a good thing that though the storyline had been used before, the cast line-up seemed pretty refreshing. Ron Ng acted as the mischievous son, while Sunny Chan acted the honest father, and they seemed quite matching for their roles. Add on Gigi Wong who's acting as a fierce landlady, David Chiang as the timid noodle stall boss, plus comedic kings, Louis Yuen and Carlo Ng, this has somewhat increased our confidence!

Ah, left out something. The female lead is Myolie Wu. But this might not be the selling point for this drama!

Captions (only Myolie's part is translated):

1) Returning to his father's younger days when he's still single, Ron Ng taught Sunny Chan on how to woo Myolie Wu
2) At the end of the story, Ron Ng then discovered that there's another inside story with regards to his relationship with Sunny Chan and Myolie Wu
