TVB to stop shooting Music Vidoes to help with finances

A delegation from the ‘Shenzhou 7’ Chinese space mission will be arriving at Hong Kong in 2 days time and they will be attending a grand show at the Hong Kong Stadium on Sunday. It is known that those artists that are fortunate enough to perform include Joey Yung, Kelly Chen, Alan Tam, Hacken Lee, Kary Ng, Niki Chow and the pianist Li Yundi (李雲迪). The 3 astronauts Zhai Zhigang (翟志剛), Liu Boming (劉伯明) Jing Haipeng (景海鵬) will also be attending the event. This is the second time that Joey has gotten to perform in front of the Chinese astronauts and she feels very honoured.

During the event, Joey will be singing ‘Grow Up With Me’ and she happily said “The previous time that the astronaut Yang Liwei (楊利偉) came to Hong Kong, I also got to perform for him so I feel very honoured to be able to participate on both occasions, and to witness how space technology has helped write another page in the history books”. For Kelly, she has specially chosen to sing ‘Fly Along With The Dream’ (隨夢而飛) and she joked: “I hope to be able to fly together with the astronauts.”

Joey's blog gets hacked

In other news, a person had hacked Joey’s blog, yesterday, and added vulgar and dirty content to it, as well as posting nude pictures of a girl to ridicule Sherman Chung’s 36E figure. This content was immediately removed by the website company. Joey helplessly said: “Regarding the bad things that were done, I hope people online will not do things that will harm others but will give no benefit to themselves.”

TVB stops shooting MV

Finally, apart from the news that TVB have made some employees redundant, there have been rumours that they will stop shooting music videos, which will help make a saving of HK$400000, each month, in production costs. Instead, the music videos will now be filmed by the music company and then TVB will be provided with the MV to broadcast. According to some information, music companies are not happy about this news. Reporters have approached Chan Ga Yeung (陳家揚), who works in TVB’s music and entertainment department, to seek confirmation of the news. He said that because of reforms to the financial resources, music videos won’t be shot anymore. Also, Stephen Chan (陳志雲) has said that TVB are only accommodating to the music companies’ wish to provide their own MVs.

Regarding this news, Joey agreed with the decision and said “It’s good because only one MV needs to be shot so it allows us to spend more effort on shooting it. A beautiful MV requires a large financial investment and I’m fortunate enough to have commercial sponsors.” Charlene Choi added “All along, the problem with shooting MVs is with the financial resources. Now that only one MV is required, it is good for both TVB and the music company”. In addition, Juno Mak and Eric Suen also agreed with TVB’s decision.

  1. I've never understood why there were always 2 MV versions of the same song: TVB' version and the record company's version.

I've always found TVB versions to be somewhat cheap and not very good. Maybe now the MV's will approach the quality of Taiwanese MV's.
