City Telecom (HK), the second- biggest provider of fixed-line phone services to Hong Kong homes, said chairman Ricky Wong takes over as chief executive officer at local broadcaster Asia Television with immediate effect.

Wong will remain chairman and an executive director at City Telecom, according to a statement.

Asia Television, partly owned by ABN Amro, is boosting spending on digital programming as it aims to gain market share from Television Broadcasts, Hong Kong's biggest TV company.

Wong will reduce his involvement at City Telecom, the phone carrier said.

Television Broadcasts, controlled by 101-year-old chairman Run Run Shaw, had 73 percent of Hong Kong's TV advertising market last year, almost four times more than Asia Televisions
