29 year old Charles Szeto, a TVB actor went to Macau for work and soon was suspected to have been cheated of nearly HK$800,000 at the casinos in Macau.
On December 12, 2008, Charles was on TVB's Scoop to explain the whole incident and what had happened. He said that he went to Macau to work and after work, he went down to the casinos to have a look. He started off playing a bit of Blackjack and lost some money. Soon he was approached by three men who lured him into playing Baccarat instead and ended up losing huge sums of money. According to Charles, he constantly tried to stop the men from making him gamble more as he did not know how to play those games, however the three men insisted that he won't lose much.
When Charles returned to Hong Kong, had already paid HK$170,000 of his debt and thought that was it, however back in Hong Kong it was a different story, his $170,000 debt turned into $800,000, then he realized that it was a scam. He was accused of not being sincere enough, therefore his parents' home and his company was covered in red paint. As of now, he has asked the police for assistance and that he regrets his mistake. He apologizes to his family, friends and his company (TVB) for his mistake and agrees to accept any kind of consequence that is given to him. As he spoke of the incident, Charles began shaking and his voice was breaking up. He concludes the interview with advice to everyone to not trust people so easily and not to follow his mistake.
